Using Your Ionic Air Cleaner

Plug the adapter into the SurroundAir XJ 2000 and then into a wall socket and then push the “on” button on the right side of the unit. A green light will come on indicating the unit is on “high”. Press the “Level” button (next to the “Power” button) to switch the unit to the low setting. A yellow light will appear. On “low”, it will run for 3 minutes on and two minutes off.

Just use common sense with the use of this or any electronic device. Do not use near water or splash liquids on the XJ2000.

Easy, Quick and Economical to Maintain - NO Expensive Filters To Replace

The unit has easy to undo thumbscrews for removing the charged collection plate. You can loosen or tighten them easily, by hand. No need for a screw driver.

To clean the unit, simply un-plug the unit, then loosen the screws and pull out the collector plates. To clean the collector plates, you can run them under warm water and clean them with a soapy sponge, and then rinse them off. I personally recommend using alcohol and paper towels for easiest cleaning, as the accumulated toxins can be quite sticky. Just be thankful they are going on your paper towel, not in your lungs where they would be without the XJ2000. 

Very important; make sure the plates are completely dry before resuming operation.

Cleaning the collector plates can be done as often as you like. They collect dust on a daily basis, but it’s only necessary to clean them once at least every 2-3 weeks in order to keep the plates as conductive as possible. As long as you do that, the plates will provide a strong enough conductive surface near the unit to attract dust where it’s needed most; near a several million negative ion per cubic centimeter source.

Cleaning the Ionic Pins

The units are nearly silent, but if you listen closely you will hear a slight "hissing" sound. If you notice your unit begins to make a on and off “hissing” sound (as opposed to a steady hissing sound), some of the pins have collected too much dust and are in need of cleaning.

Of course, the first thing you must do is make sure the unit is unplugged before opening the unit to clean the ionic pins. I recommend you use rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab to clean the tips, since alcohol dries fast and cleans thoroughly.

• Where to Place Your Ionic Air Purifier
  
  Optimal placement on the unit will depend on the size and dimensions of the room. Rooms with high ceilings, even when the room is less than 500 sq. ft should use two units. This will effectively treat all of the air within the room with high levels of negative ions. You will need multiple units to effectively treat an entire residence, since negative ions and ozone do not travel through walls. (One per room, two in large open areas or high ceiling areas)
  
  

• How You Can Remove the Strongest Odors
  
  If you encounter very strong odors, such as heavy cigarette smoke, simply place 3-4 units throughout the room. You can also leave multiple units running in an empty, odor ridden room to remove very strong odors or to kill the odor causing microorganisms. The ozone levels will be above EPA guidelines, (.05 ppm) but as long as nobody is occupying the room, it’s okay. The bad odors will be replaced with a heavy “bleach” smell once the odor source is neutralized or killed by the ozone and negative ions.
  
  

• Ionizers and Computers
  
  Some people say it’s not good to place the negative ion generators within 3 feet of computer equipment or electronic components. Electronic or computer equipment produces high levels of positive ions, but very high levels (millions) of negative ions are said to be capable of disrupting their operation. So you are wise to best to place your unit at least 4 feet from electronic or computer components. I have a unit 3 feet from my computer however, and have never noticed a problem.
